Since we have DoDo and Hyperion added to the mappers, I had the idea of making a community map with everyone who would like to be part of it.
We all know mapping takes time, patience and idea's which isn't always easy to work out and it would be a lot easier if everyone takes his share and makes one unique part in the map.
Reply here if you are interested, if there are enough mappers who would like to take part in this we can make a poll of what style/theme we use or if we all will make our own part with our own theme and connect them in the end. |

I think it might be a cool idea to let everyone create his/her own map and theme with a length around 10 min +/-.
When all the maps are done they could be connected with portals and an intro text naming the author when entering their part.
Just would need someone who knows how multiple skyboxes work since I don't know how thats done
Any suggestions? |

Sure!
Well, I started an ancient (OFCOURSE) part yesterday which contains rain and a night skybox.
I think it's okay if someone else makes something with a sun skybox for example, maybe even with a modern theme.
Everything can be connected with the theme the next part will contain.
Like, I made ancient and the next is some Skaarj base, then I would have to make an ending with a Skaarj base theme and it continues there.
Also about the Boss etc, I think thats the best to discuss on the end when everything is done.
Difficulty should be medium (imo) but not to hard or spammed.
It can be medium since the map will probably be an hour in length with everyone making a part.
Last about the weapons, I think it's nice to have a new spawn after each part which contains the weapons of the previous part and maybe a new one added.
It's hard if we all make our own part instead one main theme, I suppose its the easiest if everyone just makes a part and one person will connect everything on the end and does spawnpoints/weapons and other stuff like the Skybox.
Anyways, anyone who has time or wants to start his part go ahead! The faster we can discuss all the other stuff. |

My thoughts:
- same skybox for everyone, and a sense of continuity throughout the map, for the project to feel more collective
Much like how single player maps look connected despite style changes.
I'd rather not use teleporters (we have warp zones if needed), but I'm okay with them if the progression remains logical.
That means no frozen lake to tropical beach to spaceship to crypt to skyscraper.
Even though I would say something like LongCorridor2006 works, it's not very collective in my mind.
- new spawnpoints on each part
- all weapons available from the start, so that no part feels weaker or stronger than the others
- not sure an end boss is actually good for the map
It kind of makes the project meaningless to end it with the typical bag of HP "just because", like explosions in a hollywood movie.
It distracts from the point.
- 10 minutes each is very long both in terms of play time and build time
Half of this would be very good already. |

A map like Long Corridor 2006 was great idea but seems something about is different we have valleys, a temple, a spaceship, a underwater cave, a sewer, and etc. But I like Hellfire idea but when I play Long Corridor you have to start way back if you die and then when you get to the room before titans you spawn their and in Long Corridor 2006 you only spawn at the beginning so having spawn point at each part be good if it is long. |

..about ur rain...
..never tried it and i cant really say if it works or not.. .seems its up to u to make some tests
here is also a little tutorial for this.. its all german but maybe it helps u anyway.
.. seems to be a nice thing (if it works). u can even set a visual effect for drops landing on the ground and stuff like this..so

I agree with Thunder, in the past I have brought forth this idea several times, liked no one cared actually .
I've got lots of unfinished, but beautifull maps, devived in all sorts of themes which can be put to good use in programs such as this.
If there is room for one more skilled mapper, count me in. |

Since there are enough mappers and I have my map almost done we should discuss if everyone agrees on the theme and skybox lol.
I used a night skybox with as theme ancient, if everyone agrees we can all build with this theme in mind if not, we have to make a connection with ancient/modern or whatever theme.
